4-27 potato harvest.

Today is the day to harvest the potatoes. These are the Red Pontiacs I planted back in January. They are supposed to take about 90 days to mature so I picked this weekend to harvest them which was a little more than 90 days. You can also tell they are ready when the vines die back.

First up though we pulled up a crop of carrots.

Now on to the potatoes. Here is what the vines look like when they are ready to harvest:

For the last couple of weeks I would dig around the base of a few vines to see if there was anything. Here is what I would find which let me know they were doing their job:

Here is the harvest. I was pretty amazed because I had read that you could expect 3 to 5 pounds per pound of seed potatoes. I ended up with around 30 pounds of potatoes from 2 pounds of seed potatoes.

I am well pleased with the results.
