Time for another update. After that quick cold snap the weather here has been hot and dry. It seems as if winter has come and gone and it's still only January.At least I don't have to worry about frost and seed starting shouldn't be too hard.
Below is a pic of some of the things I have just picked. Carrots, Cabbage, Beets, Banana Peppers, and Strawberries. I have been getting about a half pint to a pint of berries every other day. The bugs are nice and leave a few for me.
Here are some Celebrity tomato seedlings along with some Pack Man broccoli seedlings. The far right has lavender in it but only 1 germinated.
My second bed of lettuce is coming along real nice. Real soon I will start picking some of them for baby greens to thin them a bit.
I bought some Texas Sweet Onion starts to give them a try. They should take about 100 days.
After the cold snap some of my Zucchini didn't recover. One plant seems to have some kind of wilt disease while the other ones are really struggling. I probably need to just pull them up and start over.
Here the Sugar Snap Peas are forming some pods. They have lots of blooms and I should be able to pick some in about a week.
The new crop of spinach is starting to leaf out. Looks good for some baby greens with the lettuce for a salad.
Here the Beef Master Tomato is going strong. It is just loaded with fruit and over 6 feet tall. I picked a Tomato Hornworm off of it yesterday and didn't see any more on it. I will keep a close eye on it and if I find another one I will spray some Spinosad.
Here is the Broccoli I picked a couple weeks ago. I want to plant beans in this bed but haven't had a chance so I left the plants. If you leave the plants after picking the main head they will send out more floret shoots which you can then pick. So it's not a waste to just leave them for a while.
The next crop of Broccoli is coming along fine. I did find one cut worm which attacked a plant. I caught it in time. I noticed some leaves were chewed on and the stem was gnawed on. So I looked all around under the mulch and sure enough I found it sleeping all curled up. that was the end of it.
The Pepper bed seems to have survived the cold snap and is now growing and producing well.
Here is the new Florida Prince Peach tree which has already broken dormancy. I was hoping it would wait a few weeks. It keeps putting out flowers and I pick them off because I just planted it and it doesn't have a developed root system.
