I have ordered some seedlings from Kristen over at www.lataspatch.com/ She lives near by and since I am so busy with work I will give her the business instead of going to Lowe's or Home Depot. I will be prepping some beds today so they will be ready when the seedlings are here.
So let's get to a few pics from today shall we? The green beans are doing pretty well considering the heat and humidity. Most survived and are starting to bloom.
The watermelons have simply gone bananas!! I got six real nice ones from the last crop and was going to pull up the vines when it began raining finally. They sprouted new runners and began blooming. So I let them grow to see what would come of it. I am glad I left them alone. I have at least 10 or more out there now.
The butternut squash has been growing well so today I put up the trellises for them. Each space had 3 plants so I thinned them to 2 and tied 1 to the trellis. This way if the tied one dies for some reason I can tie the other one. Once they mature enough I will thin them to one per space.
The potted pineapple top is doing well. I planted it in the pot where I was trying some carrots. The carrots all died except one so I left it in there. It should be ready in a couple weeks.
The container potato from the last crop is now at the top of the pot. It seems the potato plants grow really fast.
My strawberry starts from the runners are doing real well. I will probably plant some soon in pots and a few back in the bed to fill it out.
I pulled up the rest of the sweet potato plants. The ones in the front bed didn't have many at all.
The ones from the back bed did real well. If you remember from an earlier post this bed was made from just compost, peat, and vermiculite. Maybe there was something in the ground in the other bed as I mixed the soil I dug out back in when I made it.
That's all for today. The rest of the day I will be prepping some beds and pulling a lot of weeds and getting ready for the fall gardening season to begin.
