It's April and warming up around here. The garden has really been producing with not much bug activity because of the colder than normal March and the harvest has been plentiful. Here are some nice pics of how things are do now.
First I have two kinds of canteloupe, Hales Best and Maverick growing on the east side of the house. They are blooming and I found a couple fruits hiding under the leaves.
Next up are the wild growing Everglades Tomatoes which are extremely prolific and just seem to take care of themselves.
My Red Pontiac Potatoes are doing well even though the plants are beginning to die. You are supposed to harvest them after the plants die off. I have been digging around the base of the plants and yes there are some nice taters under the soil.
Radish seeds have germinated and the two Green Bell Pepper plants are beginning to produce.
The next bed has the last remaining Redbor Kale, Pack Man Broccoli, carrots, and Mosai Beens. The broccoli has been harvested but will continue to send up side shoots to harvest for a while.
Next my Celebrity Tomatoes have been incredible. Along with them I planted some extra Detroit Dark Red Beets which are about ready to harvest.
The next bed has the Brussels Sprouts along with a couple Pac Choi that are going to seed. Many of the sprouts look ready to pick.
The pineapple are looking good, too.
Next we have the garlic and Mr Big Peas which are blooming and have pods forming.
Carrots here are ready to pick. This is the second crop in this bed. The first has already been harvested.
Here is the next crop of Celebrity Tomatoes and the Graffiti Cauliflower. The heads are purple and some are about ready to pick.
Here is the next crop of Yellow Grannex Onions. The first pic is from a couple weeks ago and the last two are from today.
Here is one of the best lettuces I have grown. It is Red Butterhead Lettuce and has done fabulously!! It is now my favorite and I will try to grow it each year. I love trying new veggies that turn out so well.
The next bed has Lima Beans which are germinating really well. They need heat to germinate so I waited to plant them at the end of March. Looks like it has worked out well.
This bed has lettuce that has bolted along with some bell peppers and Lacinato Kale. I always plant way too much lettuce but if it's not given away then it just gets recycled back into the compost.
Toy Choi is a baby Pac Choi I tried this year. They mature extremely fast and are very tasty in stir fry.
In the same bed as the Choi we have Marketmore cucumbers, Detroit Dark Red Beets, and Black Beauty Eggplant.
The next bed contains Red Cabbage, a couple Green Cabbage, and more Pack Man Broccoli.
The Tribute Strawberries aren't doing too well. Many of them sprouted and then died. I think maybe the sun was too intense so I need to put up the shade cloth. The Florida Prince PEach tree is kind of making up for it though.
Finally I have the Zucchini and Spaghetti squash producing pretty good. This is the first time growing Spaghetti Squash. I am looking forward to trying out the squash which shouldn't be too long from now.
